Database Utilities

To get here, click this button on the toolbar, then click the Database Utilities tab.

This screen allows you to add new stocks that might not be in the database, as well as view and edit changes to a current stock and download historical data.

Getting Started

Any symbols you wish to look at, whether you want to add, edit, view or delete, needs to be entered in the first white text box in the upper left corner under the word symbol.

Add a Symbol

One thing to remember is that many bulletin board stocks may not have data available. It still wont hurt to try.

Once you have typed in the symbol, click the button that says "Add New Symbol To Database." This will put the symbol name in the text box to the right. You will need to supply the name of the company for this symbol in the "Name" textbox, and then select in the dropdown box which exchange this symbol is in. Once you have done these three things, click the button "Save Symbol Info."

Once you have added the new symbol, you will want to download the historical data for it. Click the "Redownload" button. After a few seconds, you should start to see numbers moving to the left of the "Save Symbol Info" button. When it is finished, it will say "Finished."

Take a look at the information on the right side of the window. A stock with 10 years of history will have over 2000 Price Records. Now, the stock you have tried to redownload may not be 10 years old, it may only be 2 years old. This is ok. But if it says zero to the right of "# of Price Records", then the data may not be available for this stock. Also verify the correct Price Dates for this stock.

Delete a Symbol

Once you have typed in the symbol, click the "Delete Symbol From Database" button. The program will verify that you want to do this. Click "Yes" if you are ready to delete this stock. The program will then verify that the stock was deleted. Click Ok.

Edit or View a Symbol

Once you have typed in the symbol, click the "Edit" button. If this symbol is not in the database, the program will ask you if you want to add this symbol to the database. If you click yes, go back up to the instructions under Add A Symbol.

If the symbol is in the database, you will see the current information about this symbol to the right of the Edit button. You will see the company name and the Exchange that this symbol is in. Also, to the far right, you will see information about the price, earnings, and split data for this symbol.

If you wish to change either the company name, or the Exchange for this symbol, you may do so here. After you have made your changes, click the "Save Symbol Info" button.

You may also redownload the current symbol in case you feel that some of the data may be incorrect. Just click the "Redownload" button, and the redownload will start.
