Downloading Mutual Fund Databases
The Mutual Fund segment of Best Choice contains over 16,000 Mutual Funds. This database contains the 10-year history for all the funds. You can view Mutual Funds in the long-term charting portion where growth rates are displayed. You can also use the wizard to search through all 16,000 Funds. Mutual funds do not have an open/high/low/close like a stock, so you cannot create a candlestick chart. Also, there is no daily volume for Mutual Funds.
Please note that the mutual funds are an additional charge besides the cost of Best Choice, and your computer must be licensed to see them. Also, Dial Data charges extra for the data. If you purchased the Mutual Fund package, be sure Sunny Decker has licensed your computer before you attempt to download the Mutual Fund Databases.
If you have a high-speed modem you can connect to our website to download the files. These files are compressed and are about 180 megabytes in size. They expand to about 700 megabytes of storage space on your hard drive. They are too large to be downloaded on a 56K modem. If you have a 56k or dial up modem, you must use a Best Choice cdrom that is dated within the last 90 days. If you do not have a current cdrom or you wish to purchase a Mutual Fund license, please call our office (941-747-5858).
Installation for high speed internet users (cable, dsl, satelite) only.
Installation for 56k users with a cd-rom disk.
Updating The Databases
Once you have downloaded the databases, you will most likely have to update the Mutual Fund data. After you have re-run the Best Choice program, select a Mutual Fund such as the Janus Fund (symbol JANSX) and set it for "All Data" on the time frame. Notice the date on the chart in the lower right hand corner. This is the last day of data from the downloaded database.
If it is not the last trading date (yesterday unless it is after 9pm eastern), then you will have to update the Mutual Fund data by downloading from the day after the last date till today. You will do this by going to the download window by clicking in the yellow telephone icon in the top left of the toolbar. The first calendar date (Start Date) should be the day after the last day in the chart. The second calendar date (End Date) should be one or two days after the first date. It is ok if you redownload US stock data that you have previously downloaded. Dont try to download more than a few days at a time. If you need more information on how to download, click here.
After you have updated your Mutual Funds to the latest date of data available, it will probably be a good idea to re-index. If you are unsure of how to do this, click here.
