Overview
The purpose of this screen is to allow you to change what indicators you are seeing with each chart and to edit the parameters of those indicators. For a description of all the indicators in Best Choice, click here.
Getting Started
There are two areas of this screen. On the left side is the area where you can change which indicators are going to be shown with each chart. On the right side is the area that allows you to edit the parameters for each indicator. We will start with the left side.
Chart Layers
In addition to the main chart of the stock price, you can view up to four additional indicators in what we call layers. By default, the program opens with stock volume in one layer. You can add up to three more layers to view different indicators.
If you have never changed these settings, then when you first go into this screen, you will see on the left the four layers labeled One, Two, Three and Four, along with the current indicators being shown in each. Layer One will have Volume next to it, and Two through Four will say nothing, since they have not been enabled.
To add a layer with an indicator, first click on the arrow on the upper drop down box under the word Layer on the far left of the screen. In this example, lets say you have never changed these before, so we are going to add a second layer. Select "Two" in the drop down box. You have to add layers in order. In this example, we would not be able to add an indicator to level three, since we haven't added one in level two yet.
After you have clicked on Two in the Layer drop down box, you will see that the Indicator drop down box now has the word "Nothing" in it, because currently there is nothing in that layer. Now click on the arrow on the Indicator drop down box, and select one of the indicators in the list. In this example, it won't matter which one you choose. Immediately after you have clicked on which indicator you would like to see, you will notice to the right next to Layer Two is the indicator you just selected.
You can now do one of two things. If this is all you want to see for right now, you can save the changes by clicking on the Save Chart Settings and Indicators button. Now close the Program Options window by clicking the X in the top right corner of the Program Options window. If you are in the short term part of the program, you should see the changes right away.
The second thing you can do is continue adding layers or go on to change some of the parameters of different indicators on the right side of the window. If you wanted to add a third layer with a different indicator, go ahead and click the Layer drop down box, and select Three. Now, in the indicator drop down box where it currently says Nothing, click it and select another indicator. Thats all there is to it. Now next to Layer Three it shows the indicator you just selected. You can keep making changes, just make sure that you save what you have changed before you close the Program Options window by clicking the Save Chart Settings and Indicators button.
Indicators Options and Parameters
You can change the options and parameters for all the indicators and some other chart information on the right side of this screen in the Indicator Settings area. Just click on the item in the list that you would like to change and the parameters will be shown to the right of the list.
For example, click the MACD. You will now see the parameters for the MACD on the right side of the list. You can change the number of bars for the different exponential moving averages that make up the MACD, as well as change the color for the different lines.
To change the color of one of the lines, click once in the colored box next to the line you wish to change. A color dialog box will now be shown. Select the color that you wish the line to be, and click OK when you are done. If you wish to cancel, click the cancel button.
You can make multiple changes at one time to different indicators, just be sure to click the Save Chart Settings and Indicators button when you are finished.
