Edit Data

To get to this screen, click on the button on the toolbar that looks like a spreadsheet.

Overview

This screen shows you 3 frames of data for a stock: price, earnings and splits for a stock. You can move the left scrollers up or down and see all of the data used to generate the charts. The large main frame is for price. For each day, there is Open, High, Low, Close and Volume data. This comes to the program when you update each day.

Adding Price Data

The first button is "Add". Suppose you wanted to add data for 1 day. Let's say on December 20, 2003, you wanted to add an Open of $5, a High of $5, a Low of $5, a Close of $5 and a Volume of 25. Then you click on the Add button and it will bring up an "Add Price" window. You can then type in the values that you want. It will look like the window below. You can then click the "Save" or "Cancel" buttons. If you click save, then the Add Price window will close and your save changes will be reflected in the spreadsheet of the main Edit window.

Editing Price Data

Now, suppose we want to edit the figures. We want to change the $5 Close to $68. We would highlight the row and click the edit button. This displays the "Edit Price" window.

In the edit window, we change the $5 Close to 68 and click the "Save button". Now the new changes have been saved to the price frame and you will see:

Deleting Price Data

If the data is wrong, like 12/20/2003 is, you can highlight the row, by clicking on any item in the desired row (see below). Then click the Delete button on the right side of the window.

Deleting a Range of Price Data

If you click and drag to highlight a group of stock, now you can click the Delete Range button.

You will get a confirmation window. This window will ask if you want to delete the splits and earnings for the range as well. If you click Yes, you will delete splits and earnings as well. If you click no, you will only delete the prices.

Adding Earnings Data

If you click the "Add Earnings" button, it will display the "Add Earnings" Window.

Here you can type in a date and an earnings value. When you click save, it will save it to the database.

The edit and delete buttons for the earnings work just like the edit and delete buttons for prices. There is no "Delete Range" button for earnings, because there are very few earnings for a stock and it is not that difficult deleting them on a one by one basis. There are no add, edit and delete buttons for splits, because when a stock splits, it changes the complete price and earnings histories. If this is to occur, it is easier to redownload the price histories with one button, than to try to manipulate all the price and earnings values.
