"I keep downloading the main executable or other databases in the Help/Utilities, but the date in the Utilities window stays the same when I rerun the program."

This is most likely due to the initial white spash screen not being run when you first open the Best Choice program.

When you first run the Best Choice program, the icon on your desktop does not actually open the main program. It points to the splash screen executable file, and runs that. The spash screen is not just a pretty opening window. It checks to make sure you have all your files, updates any files you might have just downloaded, and then runs the main BestChoice program.

If your icon on your desktop is not pointing to the spash screen executable (bestchoice4.exe), or if you are not seeing the initial white spash screen when you first run the BestChoice program, then your files (executables or databases) will not be updated.

Check to make sure the BestChoice 4.0 icon on your desktop is pointing to the bestchoice4.exe file in the BestChoice4 direction. It should be on your C drive under the "Program Files" folder, or wherever else you may have installed it if you did not use the default installation directory.

Sometimes it is easier just to delete the icon on your desktop, and create a new one. You can create a new icon by doing the following.

1. Double click on the "My Computer" icon. This should be on your desktop on the upper left corner, or you can also find it by clicking on the start button on the bottom left corner if you are running the windows XP operating system.

2. Double click on your C drive. (Assuming you installed BestChoice in the default directory).

3. Double click on the yellow folder "Program Files"

4. Double click on the yellow folder "BestChoice4"

5. Look for the file "BestChoice4.exe". You may not see the ".exe", depending on your windows settings. In this case, look for the file named "BestChoice4".

6. Right click on this file. It will pull up a menu.

7. Move your mouse down to the menu item "Send To". When your mouse is on top of it, it will be highlighted, and open a second menu.

8. Left click on the menu item "Desktop". This will create a shortcut to the BestChoice spash screen on your desktop.

9. Close all currently open windows and go back to your desktop.

10. You should see the new BestChoice 4.0 icon.

11. Double click the new BestChoice 4.0 icon. You should see the initial white BestChoice spash screen. If all your files are in order, the main BestChoice 4.0 program should open up behind the spash screen with a chart.

12. Click anywhere on the white spash screen to close it.

13. You are done.
